“That’s what I’m fuckin’ talking about.”

Great Island Endurance workout last night.

I think a lot has been lost in the new age of running. We’ve started to over-index on aerobic and cardio fitness—on paces, heart rate, mileage, and weekly totals—because those are the things that produce impressive stats. They’re easy to track, easy to post, and easy to compare.

But in doing that, we often miss out on becoming well-rounded – and ultimately faster – runners.

This session was old-school: jumps, hill sprints, stair sprints, and some smooth, fast running. Neuromuscular work. Strength. Coordination. Speed. The stuff that doesn’t show up nicely on a graph but quietly makes everything else better.

Nothing fancy. Nothing algorithm-friendly. Very unimpressive on Strava and Instagram—which is exactly the point.

A lot of the stuff that makes you better won’t impress anyone.

Mileage still matters. Aerobic work still matters. But running well isn’t just about stacking clean data. It’s about being able to move, accelerate, climb, change gears, and handle different stresses without breaking down.

Train in a way that makes you better – not in a way that aims to impress, but will ultimately leave you under-performing.
